At the Victoria’s Secret fashion show earlier in the month, TMZ went backstage and asked the participating models what they were excited about eating after the show. Whilst most models replied with answers such as ‘pizza’, Magdalena Frackowiak didn’t take the bait. Instead of discussing how she’s been depriving herself as expected, she responded with ‘This is stupid. Ask more smart questions’. We reckon TMZ will think twice before criticising Magdalena from now on.
2. Cheryl Fernandez-Versini
Singer and X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s weight understandably dropped following the death of her father-in-law. This, however, was enough to trigger a mass of comments from the media labelling her ‘too thin’, despite the fact that she was going through a difficult time.
Taking to Instagram, Fernandez-Versini explained ‘When a girl is just that bit too skinny in your eyes, she gets judged. It isn’t your fault you think like this. The media have told us that this size is too thin and that size is too big’. She wrapped up her post by telling her followers there is much more to life than having the ‘perfect body’, proving once again she is more than just a pop star.
3. Nicole Arbour
You might remember YouTuber Nicole Arbour was in the firing line earlier in the year after posting the video ‘Dear Fat People’. Arbour got a taste of her own medicine when she received thousands of negative comments, including backlash from other YouTubers such as Meghan Tonjes and Grace Helbig, who responded with their own videos. But possibly the best comeback was from filmmaker Pat Mills who was working on his anti-bullying film Don’t Talk To Irene. Up until the moment Arbour’s video was posted, the pair had been in talks about hiring Arbour to take part in the film.
“Did you even read my script?” Mills asked Arbour in a public statement to Zap2It. “[Don’t Talk to Irene] is a body-positive teen movie. It has a message that is in direct opposition to your cruel and lame YouTube rant. We will not be working together.”
4. Sean O’Brien
And finally, we have the odyssey of Sean O’Brien, otherwise known as ‘Dancing Man’. It began last year when O’Brien had his photo taken while dancing at a concert, and was posted with a cruel caption on social site 4chan. The post fortunately backfired when a group of internet users decided to organise an enormous dance party in his honour. Things only got better for O’Brien when he attended a subsequent party designed for him which was DJ’ed by Moby, and even raised £30,000 for charity. He now works with the Anti-Bullying Ambassador program to help prevent situations like this from happening again.
