All You Need To Know About Drake’s “More Life” Project

Drake delighted us all by dropping his latest playlist project on Saturday – note he is calling the 22-track a project not an album. From shoutouts to JLo to featuring his mum’s sweet voicemail message.

Here’s all that’s got us all talking about More Life.

He raps, “I drunk text J-Lo / Old number, so it bounce back” on “Free Smoke,” so I guessss things didn’t end well? He also makes hint that dating her was a teenage dream of his by featuring her single “If You Had My Love” on a track titled “Teenage Fever.”

In old-school style, he samples a voicemail message on the track Can’t Have Everything – from his mum, Sandi Graham. “You know, hon, I’m a bit concerned about this negative tone that I’m hearing in your voice these days,” she can be heard saying towards the end of the song. “And I can appreciate where your uncertainty stems from, and you have reason to question your anxieties and how disillusioned you feel as well, feeling skeptical about who you believe you can trust. But that attitude will just hold you back in this life.” She concludes by quoting Michelle Obama, “When others go low, we go high.”

Ice Melts is thought to be about Nicki Minaj, with the lyrics including: “Look, I want you to myself / But I know you just left someone else / I know you did, he did a number on you / That must be why you move so icy”

Serena Williams is also rumoured to be the subject of Nothing Into Somethings: “Did I just read that you just got engaged on me? / I heard from your friend, you couldn’t even tell me / Or better yet, wait on me… At least do I get an invitation or something / A statement or something / Ask about that, you would say it was nothing.”

Drake has a history of shouting out women on his music, but on More Life, he reverts to talking about women without naming names, with the exception of Kendall Jenner.

The likes of Lionel Richie, Kanye West, Stevie Wonder and JLo feature on the playlist, as well as Travis Scott, Young Thug, 2 Chainz – and Sampha lends his dulcet tones to 4422.

The playlist’s last song, “Do Not Disturb” ends with these lines: “Taking summer off cause they tell me I need recovery / Maybe gettin’ back to my regular life will humble me / I’ll be back in 2018 to give you the summary.”
