Burberry has always had a fashionable talent and has always been one of the top designer labels. The surprising news is that this year, Burberry unveils Josh Whitehouse as their newest talent in their Mr Burberry campaign. Miss Vogue meets up with the handsome chap from Chester and model Amber Anderson to talk about Burberry, beauty and their steamy campaign,
There are a couple of very sexy scenes, was that the first time you met each other?
Josh: (Laughs) No, we went for tea a few weeks before filming. The characters we play have a deeper connection between them – it’s like they’re in the first throes of love and are totally drunk with infatuation.
Amber: Yeah, there’s a genuine sense of closeness between our characters. Plus, we knew it would be done in a way that wasn’t at all gratuitous.
The campaign is shot in Café Royal, one of London’s most exclusive hotels, by legendary film director Steve McQueen – where you nervous rocking up on set?
Josh: No, not nervous, more excited. I see Burberry as a fashion house that celebrates and supports creativity. I feel blessed to be chosen for a campaign like this!
Amber: It’s the first time Burberry has worked with a film director on one of their campaigns and Steve McQueen is a creative genius. He shot the whole thing on a 70mm camera – there’s only a couple of hundred in the world so it was really cool to see it in action
Amber, as the face of Burberry Beauty, you must have an amazing makeup bag. What’s in it right now?
Amber: Lots of Burberry products! They’re so easy to use on the go, I don’t need brushes or anything, which is especially great for me as I’m always running around. I’ve always been rubbish at applying eyeshadow so the Cream Eyeshadow Sticks are a particular favourite of mine. I also use the BB Cream absolutely everyday and I’m loving the contour and highlighting sticks at the moment.
Classic Trench or check scarf?
Amber: I love the trench, especially the sand colour. It’s all I’m wearing in the campaign!
Josh: I’m a scarf man but I also love a black trench – so suave.
When you’re not making out in Café Royal, where do you hang out in London?
Josh: I’ve lived in a warehouse in East London for about seven years now. There’s nine of us living there, all artists, musicians and actors. I just love hanging out with everyone round my place and in neighbouring warehouses. There’s one nearby with 23 people living in it! We have painting parties, we put on events and plays. I love the creative freedom.
Amber: I love the Troubadour in Earl’s Court. They always have live gigs and the food is amazing. Also, they have this absolutely beautiful overgrown walled garden that no one seems to know about. I live in Notting Hill so I love walking around the local shops – Portobello Road vintage shops and the antique shops on Colborne Road.
