Similar to the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2016 show, the Dior Resort 2016 did not fail to please us. Taking place in Cannes, South France in Pierre Cardin’s Bubble Palace, Raf Simons presented the new cruise 2016 collection. The collection was inspired by the very venue where the show took place, which was in turn inspired by the beginnings of human life. It is rumoured that it costs $30,000 to rent the Bubble Palace for a day, but further discussions about this were refused. The executive did however allude to the possible high cost, saying that creating such shows is an “important investment” for the company. The earthy terracotta colour of the unique building seemed to provide a perfect backdrop for the fashion show which depicted a collection that was full of similar warm colours and some nature-inspired prints. In relation to the venue, designer Raf Simons said “Look at this view. The most amazing place in the south of France”. He spoke about how the magic of the venue influenced the collection, drawing similarities between the holiday feel of the home and the holiday feel of the collection. “I find this architecture exceptional,” he said. Simons had first learned about the Bubble Palace as a student learning industrial design, when he was intrigued by its unique shape in comparison to the other buildings in the area. A special reason to why this venue was chosen was also revealed. Pierre Cardin, owner of the Bubble Palace, worked alongside Christian Dior from 1946. The venue which measured 21,500 square feet with a reception room that can seat 350, thus seemed appropriate.
“We tried to make it very, very light, and much younger, and therefore also more futurist and modernist,” Simons said about the collection. The show was attended by the likes of Zoe Kravitz, Marion Cotillard and Dakota Fanning as well as over 250 Dior clients. Three shows took place to present the collection, including an afternoon show, and a finale evening show.
