Louis Vuitton reached number 14 in the Forbes’s list of 100 most valuable brands of 2015. It is the only fashion brand to reach the top 20 of the list. Other fashion brands to make the list included:
- Gucci: number 42
- Hermès: number 51
- Coach: number 63
- Prada: number 74
- Chanel: number 85
- Ralph Lauren: number 89
Other clothing retailers in the list included H&M, which reached number 33, Zara, which reached number 58 and Adidas which was 83rd. Sports brand Nike trumped at number 18. Cosmetic company L’Oreal reached number 34, whilst Lancôme was at number 96 and Estée Lauder was 100th. Jewellery companies also made the cut, with Cartier at number 55 and Rolex following at number 65.
Earlier this year, Louis Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquière was applauded for helping the company grow in terms of revenue. In addition to this, the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2016 show also reached new highs for the company, with the show being a unique experience for those who attended. Attended by names such as Selena Gomez, Michelle Williams and Charlotte Gainsborough, the show had everyone in awe. As Kanye West said, “I can say it’s dope. It’s very dope.” Ghesquière has also been credited with making Balenciaga more popular and into a critically acclaimed brand. He was head of Balenciaga and has also worked with French designer Agnès B and as an assistant for Jean-Paul Gaultier. Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH), the company which owns Louis Vuitton, as well as other high fashion companies including Céline, Fendi, Christian Dior and Givenchy gave credit to Ghesquière earlier this year.
The company highlighted that he played a large role in LVMH’s “excellent performance” of 2014, with the company’s revenues increasing by 6% in just one year. The company said “for Louis Vuitton, 2014 was characterised by strong creative momentum, dominated by the enthusiastic reception of Nicolas Ghesquière’s first runway shows and of the new products.” The fashion brand has set a milestone by reaching the top 20 of the list, and will perhaps reach even higher in the coming years.
