The feeling I get walking through Zara on a Friday, when new stock has just arrived, is like being in an Alice in Wonderland novel. There is a lot of color, a lot to take in and patterns you’ve never seen before. Everything just feels so effortless. You see items you would have never thought of owning and they are now something you have to have. Maybe it was the blue patterned leggings, maybe it was the leopard print plastic clutch or maybe it was the dreamy white jumper that reminded me of summers on the Promenade in the South of France with my French father. Everything was so chic and so God damn classic.
Similar to how I feel when I wear a new outfit, prints have brought a sleekness to this Spring/Summer collection. They can make an outfit as accessible as it is to slip on a pair of Tod’s. Patterns are as loud and fashion forward as they are utterly clean cut and chic. They emulate life and can make the most plain Jane look like Nicole Richie. Add in a few gold rings and a purple hairstyle and you are ready for your E! Red Carpet. Whether you are baring it all with leopard, or keeping it Royal with a blue print, you can’t deny how bang on trend it is at the moment. It can be controlled yet crazy, extrovert yet calm. This is the trend I have been waiting for.

While patterns are making a spark on the catwalks, I can’t leave you without discussing matching suits. I wore one for my graduation and you would swear it was straight off the runway the way I meticulously took care of it. My ASOS pink and blue mixed pattern jacket and skirt combo was even confused with a Chanel. Yes, I was as shocked as you are. There is nothing sleeker than a matching suit and even grunge extraordinaire Rihanna has exhibited that in her latest Chanel shopping cart campaign.
Life is color and shapes and life is patterns and prints. And if they are good enough for Olivia Palermo they are good enough for a journalist and dog lover such as myself. If Victoria Beckham thinks love heart patterns are chic, I’ll take five. Fashion is what you make it and I want to spend this whole Spring/Summer head to toe in patterns. Let the games commence.
Whether you are Bob who owns the barber shop, or Hollywood’s most famous couple, Brangelina, fashion is how you interpret it and money shouldn’t be too much of a factor. If it’s Primark or Prada, you can rock just about any outfit with the confidence and elegance of a Fashion Rocker reader. Dare to go bold this Spring/Summer and wear prints day and night. This is a trend that you can’t afford to miss.
