Walking into The Vogue Festival last weekend was like walking onto a stage in a musical in school. There was butterflies, nerves and utter excitement. I did not know what to expect. On a bright sunny day in London, it was chic and cheerful. As I entered the Elizabeth Hall at the Southbank Centre, I realized this was a huge production. From the Vogue Shop to the juice stands and the notes wall to the Vogue photo booth, nothing was done by halves. With no exaggeration, it was utterly amazing. Maybe for a London citizen it was just the norm but for someone, like myself, from the small Isle across the pond it was really really cool.
Next stop the Model talk with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn. Just when I thought these models couldn’t get anymore beautiful, they surpass that. Their skin, their clothes, their pure elegance. These three models certainly do not embody the dated stereotype of “models are air heads”. You could just tell even by the way they talked that they were clever business women who have their heads screwed on the right way. The glamour oozing from the room was undeniable – I felt very privileged to be there.
Back to the foyer which had so much going on. The Harrods catwalk, The Vogue Café and the Vogue photo booth were quirky and fun. The inscriptions on the walls in the entrance made it seem even more real. We were in a Vogue organized event and I couldn’t quite grasp that. My favorite quote which will be no surprise to people who know me, was by Matthew Williamson. As a self confessed TV addict and dog lover, seeing that one of Vogue’s elite said: “I like to stay in with my friends and my dog. My guilty pleasure is really bad TV” made this hugely successful man seem so normal. Looks like I have found my fashion soulmate.
I highly recommend anyone who has an opportunity to attend any sort of Vogue event to do so in the future. They are as classy as they are fresh and fun and no cost is spared. It was a great place to network and see the London fashion industry as well as those from over seas. The second I come to hear of any other such event I will be on the first flight over. All I can say is “all hail Vogue and all those involved.”
