Gucci Set To Unify Women’s and Men’s Fashion Shows From 2017

Italian luxury brand Gucci is getting ready to shake things up, going co-ed on us come fashion week 2017. President and CEO, Marco Bizzarri, has announced from the stage of the 2016 New York Times International Luxury Conference that Gucci will unify its men’s and women’s seasonal fashion shows from 2017, when Creative Director Alessandro Michele will present one collection each season that combines his menswear and womenswear. The first unified show will take place at Gucci’s new Milan HQ at Via Mecenate. Gucci is working with the Camera Nazionale della Moda to determine a calendar date that supports Gucci’s commitment to a “see now, buy later” schedule.

“It seems only natural to me to present my men’s and women’s collections together. It’s the way I see the world today,” said creative director Alessandro Michele. “It will not necessarily be an easy path and will certainly present some challenges, but I believe it will give me the chance to move towards a different kind of approach to my story telling.”

“Moving to one show each season will significantly help to simplify many aspects of our business,” said Marco Bizzarri, president and chief executive officer of Gucci. “Maintaining two separate, disconnected calendars has been a result of tradition rather than practicality.”

What are your thoughts on a joint show, yay or nay?
