Mean Girls Becoming A Musical?

Who would of thought a Mean Girls musical? We love the movie but a musical sounds awesome! Tina Fey, writer of the original film confirmed during a New York Tines panel discussion that the hit high-school comedy is currently being reworked for the stage. “My husband, Jeff Richmond, and I (and lyricist) Nell Benjamin have been working on it,” she explained.

The musical is kept quiet, nobody knows about it. This enables fans to fantasise about how the North Shore film will best benefit from a little Broadway razzle dazzle. With the original 2004 film filled with classic quotes (“Does she even go here”, “You go Glen Coco”, “Grool”), Fey and her team will find no trouble coming up with some catchy show tunes.

Fey said, “We haven’t finished it yet, but it’s close — yes, pretty close” to that of the Paramount film she wrote, which grossed $129 million worldwide. They’re currently having trouble figuring out where the first act would end, and what would be the big “11 o’clock number,” or the climactic song toward the end of the second half: “[It] might be the girl fight.” Fey also said she wouldn’t reprise her own onscreen role or reach out to the original cast to do so onstage. And when will it debut? “2027,” joked Fey, “[or] whenever Hamilton closes. We’ll wait it out.”

So, what can we expect? Will Lindsay Lohan tread the boards once more and slip back into her baggy pink polo? Those of you who are Mean Girls fan’s will definitely enjoy the musical as much as you enjoyed the movie.
