Shoes! Items needed for protection, yet have the power to make or break your outfit. Sex and the City emphasised the value of shoes and today being the owner of those red sole highly recognisable Louboutin’s is admirable worldwide; having a pair of Jimmy Choo’s is greatly desirable; trying on those Alexander McQueen heels can make you feel powerful; whilst wearing those elegant Manolo Blahnik’s let you live the fairy tale.
From a young age we believed that shoes were magical, just like Dorothy’s ruby slippers; that shoes can bring love just like in Cinderella; we tried on our mothers heels even though they were way too big, just to feel grown up. As we’ve grown older shoes are still prominent in our lives though now, shoes, over the knee boots and heels can be associated with more suggestive fantasies.
Truth of the matter is, we constantly make associations with shoes and experiences, most of which are pleasurable ones. Just the sight of a pair of shoes in a magazine, lead you to imagine how they can change your life if you’d own them; how good they would make you feel, look and how others would perceive you. Once purchased, all that you imagined can turn into reality, triggering the release of dopamine in your brain, a neurotransmitter which allows you to feel pleasure and reward. This all means that your choice of shoes can say a lot about you; your personality, your desires, behaviour and attitudes. In short shoes are an extension of the self.
This is what your choice of seasonal shoe says about you…
Lace ups were one of the summer’s must haves. They remain on trend this season and seem to work with flats, boots and ankle strapped heels. This style shoe resembles the sandals worn by Roman gladiators, a symbol of power and strength. This season, women who choose to wear this shoe feel empowered, chic and safely strapped in ready to defeat any challenges the day may bring!
On a first take the woman who wears suede flat shoes (in this case loafers) would be considered “safe” an introvert, a wallflower, quiet and shy. Yet keeping in mind that suede gets dirty easily and is easy to ruin, this person in actual fact is a risk taker and does not play safe after all!
Metallic shoes shine and sparkle, just like mirrors and clean rivers. This means that even though the eye is drawn to them, they reflect any environment they are in, meaning that they are adaptable, just like the women who wear them. Women who choose to wear metallic shoes are excitable, outgoing and lively yet easy-going, empathetic and get on with nearly everyone they meet!
Over the knee boots
When we think of over the knee boots the first thing that comes to mind (well my mind anyway!) is Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. It then goes without saying that women who wear over the knee boots aim to feel sexy as the boots emphasize the thighs, and elongate the legs.
Women wearing ankle boots this season are likely to be punctual, organised, dependable and great multi taskers. Just like the women who wear them, ankle boots are multi-functional, that is, they go nicely with almost any outfit and can be worn at work or on a night out.
