Some of you will have heard last year’s frightening news report, stating that the majority of suntan creams will actually cause skin ageing and damage. Apparently, certain ingredients contained in some sun lotions will damage the skin. Studies at Missouri University point the finger at the compound, zinc oxide. Apparently, when this chemical is exposed to UV rays, it reacts, releasing free radicals of which harm the skin. Moreover, sunscreens that have a high SPF, will provide protection against UVB rays, but not UVA rays. Whilst UVA rays do not cause sunburn, they do bring wrinkles to the party. UVA rays basically age the skin.
