As the end of the year approaches, 2020 has been what some would call a rollercoaster, others a nightmare. The most important thing is that we made it. So here’s a round up off some of the big events and trends of 2020.

Nothing could have prepared us for the world being on standstill. A virus came and took the world by storm. With many that loosing their lives to this deadly disease as well as businesses and the economy. It was no more one country’s problem but the whole worlds problem and it needed to be stopped. It became apparent that it wasn’t going to go away in a few weeks, or months. But this is sadly the new normal, wearing face masks, two meters distance and hand sanitation has literally become our best friends. Some are hopeful that we will return to the way things used to be, others say until there’s a cure.

A major incident made the world join forces to tackle a much bigger crisis that has been taking place for many years. The death of George Floyd sparked a lot of anger as he was killed at the hands of the American police unjustly. People protested all around the world -#blacklivesmatter

Earlier this year it was announced that Prince Harry and Megan Markel decided to leave their senior roles in the royal family and work to become financially independent. Since then, they have gone on to secure a multi-year deal with Netflix, podcasts and more. Very interesting to see what they get up to next.

There was a new president elect that will begin next year, Joe Biden raced against Donald Trump and defeated him making him the 46th president of the united states. To top it all off, his vice president, Kamala Harris became the first woman and black woman to be a vice president elect. Breaking barriers and marking a new achievement for the world to see.

Legendary black panther star Chadwick Boseman passed away at 43 years old; after a four year battle with colon cancer privately. He will truly be missed.

Love is blind 

This show really grabbed the world’s attention, the conventional way of meeting a partner changed and blew peoples mind that they would consider it and that in a strange way it could work. The aim was they had to talk to each other through pods and form a connection, if they eventually like each other as the process goes on, they will move in together and head down the altar in three months. It was captivating and intense, had everyone on the edge of their seats.

What started as a peaceful protest to end police brutality in Nigeria has become a global conversation for justice. Nigeria’s security forces opened fire on hundreds of innocent unarmed protesters in Lagos in October.

The mobo awards is a celebration of music which includes different genres such as; grime, rap, r&b, jazz, hip hop and many more. With everything that has happened this year it was incredible to see the talent that was recognised and has emerged over the years.

With everyone mainly indoors this year, meetings, connecting with family and friends and so on became nearly impossble. The rise of zoom came in full force as one of the biggest trend of 2020. How beautiful is it to see your friends, family, colleagues virtually in the comfort of your home? Nothing will beat the face to face interaction but it made things easier to manage. We became accustomed to this including zoom weddings, who would have thought?

Tiktok

Ultimately one of the biggest trend of 2020, Tiktok did not only entertain us during the lockdown but everyone literally got involved. No matter your age, race, style, location, or whether you want educational or business ideas; there’s something for everyone on this platform and the best part is we all get to join in the fun and re-create incredible videos. We’ve definitely learnt a thing or two from Tiktok this 2020.
