Christmas is a time of Giving

We often forget the reason for Christmas, yes it is the season for giving and connecting with long lost family, but what about those who are unable to. We would like to share with you some of our top gift ideas giving back to the community doesn’t have to mean giving a physical gift. Sometimes volunteering an exchange of time can mean the world to someone. Here is a list of our top 3 favourite charities to give back to this Christmas.

The Felix Project: We first came across The Felix project, in the Evening Standard a heart wrenching story about the chairman of Evening Standard who lost his son in tragic circumstances and wanted to create a charity that could help those in less fortunate positions. The Felix project was created in his memory and aims to redistribute surplus food from supermarkets and deliver them to charities. Based in West London, you can get involved by volunteering your time to help distribute food across London. For more information follow this link: http://www.thefelixproject.org/

Give Blood: Do you know your blood type?  If you don’t you should find out. People are always in need of blood donations and it can be used to help multiple surgeries and save lives. A relatively simple process is a few questions asked to see if you are eligible. In less than 30 minutes the process is done and just like that you have saved someone’s life.  With hundreds of donation points across the country, there is simply no excuse. Traid: Christmas is the perfect time to clear out your wardrobe, lets face it you’re going to make way for a fresh new collection. Traid goes one step further, if you have copious amounts of clothes to give, but don’t have the time. They come and collect at a given time and date that is suitable for you. All collections are free and clothes given are re-merchandised and sold in charity shops. Profits made are used to combat against the exploitation of sweatshops across the world.
