Cinnamon Kitchen Battersea: Under The Arches Menu Review

There is something special about a dining experience that offers more than the usual. At Cinnamon Kitchen Battersea, tucked beneath the iconic arches of Battersea Power Station, food becomes a journey through history, culture and the vibrant flavours of India.

We visited to experience the restaurant’s Under The Arches menu, a dining concept inspired by the golden era of Indian rail travel in the 1950s and 1960s. Bringing together nostalgic flavours, British heritage and the stories of India’s historic coastal trade routes, this experience is designed to transport diners somewhere beyond the ordinary.

This Battersea Line experience, priced at £45 per person, offered a curated journey through Indian flavours inspired by British heritage and coastal trade routes from the 1940s to the 1950s. Created by Sathish Kumar Bala Krishnan, Head Chef at Cinnamon Kitchen Battersea, the experience celebrates the connections between food, travel and the people who shaped India’s culinary landscape.

Each dish brings a different part of the journey to life, from bustling station platforms and travelling food trolleys to railway carts where generations of passengers came together over food. With plenty of visual moments, nostalgic details and a story behind every bite, this is an experience made for sharing with family and friends.

A Restaurant Beneath the Arches

Located within the striking arches of Battersea Power Station, Cinnamon Kitchen Battersea has a setting that feels fitting for a concept rooted in railway nostalgia. The surrounding architecture truly adds character to the experience. What makes the concept particularly interesting is its connection to India’s historic trading routes. Every dish forms part of a wider narrative, encouraging diners to explore the inspiration behind the food as well as its flavours. Offering food lovers a more immersive and meaningful experience than a conventional restaurant visit.

An Experience made for sharing

One of the highlight moments was The Cooling Station – The White Vapour Clouds, featuring a crisp British gooseberry and garden mint sorbet served over a chilled green strawberry and elderflower infusion. It was an unexpected combination, yet a perfect, refreshing palate cleanser between courses. And I must not forget The Waiting Room – The Power Station Spiced Brick. This crisp potato creation, paired with sweet pea and courgette tartare, was a little bite of spiced perfection that set the tone beautifully for the culinary journey ahead.

Every dish was delicious and the Battersea Line experience was a real treat. I also had the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the kitchen, where Chef Mukesh Singh Baroli talked me through how the Charred Tandoori Lamb chop and Roast guinea fowl are cooked, offering a fascinating insight behind the dishes. From the welcoming staff and the creativity behind the menu to the delicious flavours in every dish, the experience truly lived up to its name.

Our Verdict: Is the Battersea Line Experience Worth It?

Cinnamon Kitchen Battersea offers an interesting take on Indian dining by combining food with a sense of place, history and storytelling. The Battersea Line experience stands out for its railway-inspired concept, its celebration of Indian culinary heritage and its seven-dish priced at £45 per person. Rather than treating the meal as simply a succession of courses, the idea is to take diners on a journey through the flavours and cultural influences associated with India’s railway era.
