Taraji P. Henson has certainly been on a winning streak this award season. On Friday the 5th February she attended the NAACP Image Awards where she won an award for Outstanding Actress In A Drama Series for the Hit TV series Empire. Prior to this she won a Golden Globe Award on the 10th January for best actress in a TV drama for Empire.
Henson was ecstatic about this award and handed out cookies to everyone in the audience while on her way to accept her award. Considering the name of her Character in Empire is Cookie, I guess it was simply the right thing to do.
Once she finally reached the stage she gave a short and humble speech. Usatoday.com reports “Hollywood Foreign Press, thank you. I mean, who knew that playing an ex convict would take me all around the globe. It just goes to show — I thought it would be Queenie, Will, my character from Karate Kid — but it’s Cookie, who spent 17 years in jail for selling crack. So the world loves real, thank you. So many people to thank. My manager… my publicist…” “Please wrap?” she scoffed at the apparent note on the teleprompter. “Wait a minute. I waited 20 years for this. You gon’ wait. Yeah, you gon’ give me a little more time.”
The NAACP awards which is short for National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was held on Friday the 5th of February 2016. Steve Harvey, Don Cheadle, Jill Scott, the cast of the Movie Straight Outta Compton, Mike Epps and John Legend to name a few.
Henson has starred in a number of TV shows and movies including Hustle & Flow, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Baby Boy to name a few.
It’s great to see she is winning awards for her hard work and dedication to her roles.
